Television advertising is as old as TV itself, and Ad Age has chronicled its history here on the Web. Presented as a timeline divided into chapters by decade, it looks like a coffee-table book -- without the table. You can learn about the days when cigarettes danced and sang between shows, and pinpoint trivia like "Who was looking for 'the beef'?" It's a site dedicated to the ultimate examplese of memes; unfortunately, the slick production value can't hide that it's, ironically, a bit skimpy on ad info and heavy on the history of television as a whole. It's probably just another dirty Madison Avenue trick.
