You're going to be hearing about Inktomi. Trust us. It's tremendously fast. Better than that, it offers a 2.8M database of documents. Their section entitled "Truth in Document Counting" shows that Lycos, which was up until now the most comprehensive search database, has fudged their numbers a little bit. Lycos claims over 5 million URLs--but that number includes an individual page PLUS every link on it. Inktomi believes that it can rival the competition in terms of speed and documents referenced. We found ourselves poked into even remote corners of the Web, and the search engine found words that were deeply buried in documents. We hotlisted this site immediately.
